The Plastics Engineer is responsible for leading or supporting materials, process, and equipment projects for the Extrusion Blow Molding, Injection Blow Molding, and Injection Molding operations of ThermoFisher Scientific in Rochester, N.Y. The Plastics Engineer will improve project execution by applying expertise in materials technology, scientific molding and other engineering tools. Projects will span from new product development to project execution to continuous improvement with primary focus on process engineering. Proven expertise in materials technology, processing, optimization and problem solving is required.
Plastic materials technology support for resin changes, process development, cost reduction and problem solving. Materials include PETG, PP, PC, PS, FEP and others
Teach, coach and/or lead application of scientific molding methods for EBM, IBM and Injection molding to improve product launch and process robustness.
Optimize manufacturing processes with Robust Engineering, Design of Experiments, Shainin strategies or other problem solving tools to improve overall plant performance.
Support new product development teams, design reviews and gate reviews through the application of DFA/DFM, FMEAs and other engineering tools.
Develop and implement manufacturing strategies for growth, technology and capital replacement of all molding processes.
Manage capital projects from AR development through implementation.
Bachelor of Science degree in Plastics Engineering. Masters degree preferred
5 to 10 years manufacturing experience. EBM or IBM preferred
Supervisory expereince required.
Certification or demonstrated capability in scientific molding including Moldflow analysis
Certification or demonstrated capability in DFSS, Robust Engineering, Design of Experiments, Shainin strategies or comparable tools
Leadership experience with project teams
Experience in Lean Manufacturing and Lean Engineering
Must have outstanding technical writing skills, oral and written communications skills
